Oscar Not So Favorites 2012

It's not that the dresses are ugly. It's not that the wearers of said dresses look bad. It's just...they're not my favorite. I wouldn't wear them for whatever reason. Here they are: Viloa Davis in Vera Wang. I love Viola. I love Vera. I love the color. However, there is something off here. I don't love the beading, and I don't love the pleating, which is odd, because I generally love beading and pleating and all things feminine. This just comes off as mall shop cheap to me. Sorry Viola. Love the wig free hair though!!
Angelina Jolie in Versace. Same old, same old. She does get extra points for the leg thrust, though.
Melissa McCarthy in Marina Rinaldi. It's tough to be anything bigger than a stick in Hollywood. You have the whole industry against you, and roles are slim (pun intended). Dressing for the Oscars is especially difficult if you weigh more than, oh I don't know, 120 pounds. However, I love Melissa and think she is not only very funny, but a lovely woman. I just don't love the dress. Again....it looks cheap to me. I think Octavia Spencer really nailed it in the beaded/sequined department.

Oscar Favorites 2012

Well, another Oscar night has come and gone. Second only to the Met Ball, the Oscars are a huge night for fashion. I can't imagine how much waxing, plucking, buffing, liquid dieting, pose practicing, double sided tape goes into this event. I always enjoy the dresses far more than the actual awards. Successful Hollywood types are already winning enough. Money, fame, free clothes, fabulous parties, beautiful houses, etc. Sure there is always the dark side of drugs, insecurity, aging, bankruptcy.....but how many glamorous televised events do we need to watch this elite group give each other statues? Although.....without these ego stroking events, we might not get to see so many dresses!!! Anyway, on with the show, these are my favs. Mila Jovovich. I have always loved and been fascinated by Mila. She looks incredibly beautiful in this white Elie Saab gown.
Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford. Who doesn't love sexy beast Tom Ford? His Gucci designs are incredibly collectible and his own line is highly coveted by those who can afford his sky high prices. Love the cape and the diamond cuff, loathe the low ponytail.
Michelle Williams in Louis Vuitton. I love the coral color and the delicate diamond bow. The pleating is a work of art.
Rooney Mara in Givenchy. Very avant garde no? Very Rooney, very Oscar worthy.
Glen Close in Zac Posen. Again, I'm a sucker for gorgeous pleating. This dress is the prefect combination of accentuating her tiny waist with detailing, but adding a bit of coverage with a blazer.

Vanessa Hudgens Pops in Yellow

Vannesa Hudgens attends the premier of her new movie, The Journey 2: The Mysterious Island in a gorgeous canary yellow dress by Maria Lucia Hohan. I love the sunny color, the Grecian draping and the bare back. I think this color looks great with her dark hair. I tries to find a cheaper version of this dress, but let's face it, nothing compares to that kind of draping. Instead let's take a look at other Maria Lucia Hohan creations. Here is Katherine Heigl is a gorgeous grey version with straps.
Kathleen Robertson and Jenna Dewan also love the designer. Love the emerald on Jenna!
That's it, I'm saving up my latte money for one of these dresses. Maybe by then I will be skinny enough to wear one!!!

J Brand Leather Jacket

The leather jacket...a wardrobe staple, and does wonders for self confidence. Well, in my opinion anyway. I love the asymmetrical zipper on this one. Fashionable yet bad ass. J Brand Benatar leather jacket sells for $1,150
Equally awesome is this cropped leather jacket from Makage, more moderately priced at $660

YSL Red Trench Coat

It's almost spring, and where I gre up, that means rain. Lots and lots of rain. Yes, Hunter boots are cute and functional, but when I think rain, I think trench coat. I love trench coats. They offer coverage while looking sleek and stylish. Who cares what you have on underneath? ;) This fabulous YSL trench will make anyone look like a million dollars for the low (ha!) cost of almost 3K. Ah well, a girl can dream, right?
For those of us on a budget, check out Karen Millen's version, on sale for $165.

"It Takes a Lot of Money to Look This Cheap."

My favorite quote by the fabulous Dolly Parton, and one that is applicable here. Look, I love luxury. I love gorgeous bags, clothes, shoes, jewelry, homes, etc. The list goes on and on and on. However, I have my limits, and just because you can afford it, doesn't mean you should buy it. I'd like to think that I have more dignity and class than this . Is your Range Rover just too plain? not getting you the attention you so desperately crave? Does your Birkin no longer scream "I'm rich!" loud enough anymore? Not to worry, now you can pimp your ride wi the Louis Vuitton logo and your initials. Don't forget the initials....how else will everyone know who you are when you roll up to the club? All for the low price of £100,000. Better spent on therapy, I think.

Get the Look for Less

I love Jennifer Meyer. Her jewelry is coveted in Hollywood and worn by celebs like Katie Homes, Nicole Richie, and Courtney Cox. Her minimalist designs studded with precious gems like diamonds, emeralds and turquoise can be worn everyday with every outfit. However, with prices starting at $875 for a necklace, it's not always affordable. I love luxury, but it's never smart to spend beyond your means. So I've found a solution!!

The top photo is Jennfer Meyer's wishbone neacklace, sold for $1200. Second photo is one I found on Etsy (who doesn't love Etsy!?!?!) for $27.

Lindsay Lohan is a Hot Mess

Seriously. How old is this girl?????? 25 in human years, 75 in party years. I feel so sorry for her skin, her lungs, her brain. This is what happens to so many child actors. Where were her parents when they let her move into the Chateau Marmont at the ripe old age of 16? I shudder to think of what would have happened to me in that situation. As much as i blame her parents, she is an adult and is now responsible for her own actions.

This picture makes me want to send her a gift basket of moisturizer and water, but knowing Lindsay, she would find a way to snort it.

YSL Linen Muse Two

Obviously I have an obsession with linen this spring. YSL's Riviera collection is right up my alley. Rope, anchors, navy and red....love it. I can picture myself yachting around the Mediterranean in this nautical collection.

The Muse II has become another iconic classic for the design house since its introduction in 2008. This neutral fabric looks amazing with white or with a pop of color. Match with YSL starfish printed wedges and meet me in St. Barts!!

Best Wedges of the Season-Christian Louboutin Melides

I'm a sucker for any kind of high wedge shoe. These Christian Louboutin Melides can't get in my closet fast enough! I love the neutral fabric, and the piping reminds me of Pierre Hardy. LOVE piping.

Spring Forward with Proenza Schouler PS1

Ok, so it's a bit early for spring, but this grass green Proenza Schouler PS1 has me dreaming of walks in the park. I generally think of suede as being a fall fabric, but in hues like coral and sky blue, it's perfect for a lingering patio lunch. Yeah, it will be tough to keep clean, but nothing says luxe like light colored suede!
