Mad Men Season 5 Episode 5 Joan & Lane Share a Kiss

On tonight’s episode of Mad Men the allure of Joan Harris becomes too much for Lane Pryce who tries his luck with his busty colleague.
The English Finance Officer plants a kiss on an unsuspecting Joan after she comforts him following a fist fight with his colleague Pete Campbell.
Mixing business with pleasure: Lane Pryce tries his luck with colleague Joan Harris on tonight's epsidoe of Mad Men

While Joan, who has enjoyed a long affair with Roger Sterling in the past, fails to push Lane away she does appear startled by the smooch and sits staring at her boss for a few moments before getting up and calmly opening the office door, to ensure he doesn’t repeat the gesture.
Realising he has misjudged the situation Lane notes: ‘I just seem to know no end to my humiliation today.’
Joan, played by Christina Hendricks, might have kicked out her husband but she clearly is not attracted to her boss.
Wrong idea: The English Finance Office got the wrong idea after his busty colleague comforted him following a fist fight with a colleague

Brushing it off: Joan got up and opened the door to his office before returning to her seat after the kiss

Just moments before Lane tries it on with Harris he is seen beating up colleague Pete Campbell after learning his colleague took a family friend, and potential client, to party with prostitutes.
After taking a phone call from his distressed wife about the incident Pryce storms into the boardroom to confront Campbell about his activities.
He chastises his colleague for taking a potential client out to a brothel and exaplains that his wife found out because he had 'chewing gum in his pubis'.
Bust up: Pyrce is furious with Pete Campbell after he took a potential client to a brothel and suggested they fight it out

Not just tough talk: Lane was seen throwing his fists to resolve the arguement

While the news leaves the rest of the board in fits of laughter Lane takes out his frustation on Campbell.
He declares: 'I can't believe the hours I have put in to see you turn into a monster.'
While Pete makes a smart remark Lane decides the pair will settle the matter the old-fashioned way, with a fist fight.
Should know better: The other board members don't try and break up the fight and instead they simply shut the curtains and let the drama play out

He tells his opponent: 'You are a grimey little pimp as soon as I raise my hands it will be too late to run'.
Campbell replies: 'You want to take you teeth out or do you want me to knock them out?'
Roger notes: 'Cooler heads should prevail but am I the only person who wants to see this?'
Don draws the curtain of the office as the men take off their jackets and unbutton their sleeves.
Big hit: Lane punches his colleague and knocks him to the floor

Defeated: Campbell loses the fight and his dignity as he falls to the floor

While the first few punches appear to miss Lane manages to give Pete a bust nose before knocking him to the floor, taking only a few punches himself.
As he storms out he shouts: 'Consider that my last piece of advice.'
While Lane celebrated his victory giving in to his desire for Joan, Campbell was seen telling Don not to judge him before tears came to his eyes.
'I have nothing': Th loser breaks down in tears as he heads home for the day after the fight

He told Draper: 'I’m not as virtuous as you,' before choking out: 'I have nothing'.
Not only is Campbell reeling from his defeat but he is also feeling sorry for himself after he enjoyed a romp with a young blonde at the brothel.
During the evening where Roger, Don and Pete were entertaining their client from Jaguar, Don showed he has changed.
Let's party: Don, Roger and Pete take their potential client from Jaguar out for dinner before he decides he wants to get naughty

Instead of cheating on Megan he remains faithful ignoring the advances of the prostitutes while the other head off to separate bedrooms.
In fact Draper appears to be wanting to start a family with his young wife and is seen asking her 'let's make a baby' after enjoying a dinner in the country at Campbell's house.
Come to bed eyes: Pete also enjoys the advances of a pretty female but Don doesn't get involved

Mad Men Furniture: How To Create Your Own Sixties Style

Now that season five of Mad Men is taking us back to the Sixties, lovers of the modern style are eyeing the sets for inspiration.
Luckily, the popularity of both the show and the design style makes it easy to find furniture that sets the stage.
The retro decor complements many of today's furnishings, an important thing to remember when you're trying to capture that `Sixties vibe, says Anthony Larosa, former furniture design department chair at Savannah College of Art and Design.
Colour palettes: Debra Kling, a New York-based color consultant and decorator, sees Mid-century Modern style as grounded in neutral hues. 'Simple lines, natural elements like stone and stained wood, and earth tones, punctuated by brights.'

Copy cat: Mad Men's Sixties interiors are easy to recreate with mid-century inspired furniture

He cautions against going all-in on the vintage look, even if you love it.
'People would have had a mix of furniture in their homes,' he notes. 'We get attached to things; we take them with us when we move and redecorate.'
If you're keen to incorporate vintage, reproduction or newly reissued pieces from the Mad Men era, he suggests starting by looking at books and magazines from the period to see what real interiors looked like.

That's the approach the show's set production team took.
Mad Men's set decorator, Claudette Didul, says she and Production Designer Dan Bishop are especially proud of the Manhattan apartment they created for newlywed characters Don Draper and his former secretary, Megan Calvet.
The split-level, open-plan living room was initially envisioned by show creator Matthew Weiner, but it was up to the production team to make the space cool, livable and able to accommodate shoot requirements.
Mid-century modern: Roger Sterling's office uses classic pieces easy to find today, from places like Crate & Barrell, Ikea, Etsy and Kartell

'We have to be able to move walls, and set up camera platforms, so we couldn't have actual furniture in certain places. The sofa, bench and wall unit are all built for the space and can be easily removed,' says Didul.
Some products available to purchase to get you started are Crate & Barrel's Bel-Air collection of coffee and side tables (side $399, coffee $549), and the Vintage Danish Calista teak sideboard ($1,499).
'Simple lines, natural elements and earth tones, punctuated by Diner Brights – orange, magenta and turquoise'
Goetz says, 'What makes the best Mid-century pieces is that they not only appeal to our personal sense of style; they have a degree of visual and functional truth that makes people want to live with them.'

In period TV shows, light fixtures are essential in delivering the right look.
Tall, slender wood, colorful opaque glass, gleaming metal – every set on Mad Men has a personality punctuated by one or two statement lamps.
Didul says the production team favored vintage lampshades despite their fragility.
'The slubbed silk on them is just beautiful, and the light through them is really unique,' she says.
Mod style: If you're keen to incorporate vintage or reproduced pieces from the Mad Men era, start by looking at books and magazines from the period to see what real interiors looked like

Mixed prints: Etsy.com is a good source for vintage fabrics, mod Pucci prints, florals and groovy graphics - all are a fun way to add Sixties style with textile accents

Hers came from Los Angeles-area prop shops and vintage stores.
'We've been told that the colors remind people of those 1950s tumblers, so they immediately love them,' she says, talking about the aluminum drinkware found in many homes at the time.
'So much of the design of that period is timeless. We did our best to tap into that and bring it forward.'
Debra Kling, a New York-based color consultant and decorator, sees Mid-century Modern style as grounded in neutral hues.
'Simple lines, natural elements like stone and stained wood, and earth tones, punctuated by what I call Diner Brights – orange, magenta and turquoise,' she says.
To stay true to the style, Kling advises mixing these hues into a background of neutrals, and keeping the floor plan open.

Retro bursts: Bright colours and graphic wall art prints are an easy way to incorporate the Mad Men aesthetic
Style secrets: Retro inspired tables are always in style, and are a classic approach to getting the Mad Men look
Bright colours, graphic wall art prints and classic retro furniture are easy ways to incorporate the Mad Men aesthetic into more modern interiors

Didul and her team have done that on the Mad Men sets, incorporating colorful throw pillows, ashtrays and drinkware throughout the rooms.
Etsy.com is a good source for vintage fabrics; mod Pucci prints, modern florals and groovy graphics are a fun way to add  Sixties style with textile accents.
The offices of Mad Man's advertising agency, Sterling Cooper Draper Price, are filled with cool furniture that would work at home, in living and work spaces alike.
One of the show's most popular sets is the black, white and chrome sanctum of silver-haired company partner Roger Sterling.
Didul says the brief from Weiner was 'Italian hospital,' and there's actually a scene where copywriter Freddy Rumsen calls it that.
Larosa says secondhand stores are a particularly good source for mid-century office furniture.
'Companies that sell used office furniture often have the best prices for vintage stuff,' says Larosa.

Mad Men Season 5 Episode 4: More of Don's Demons in Mystery Date

With Mad Men back on our screens, it was only a matter of time before the drama took a twisted turn, and I have to say...wtf is going on? Don is a murderer? Was it a dream, or a memory?

The fourth episode of series five, titled Mystery Date, sees Jon strip naked for a dream sequence. Hawt, but really not as he is strangling some poor woman who fell for daper Don.

Draper takes to his bed after falling ill and is visited by old flame Andrea, played by Mädchen Amick. When Andrea, whom he had an affair with, turns up on his doorstep, he initially gets her to leave.

However, after crawling back into bed, he soon wakes to find her next to him, with her claiming that he accidentally left the door unlocked.
The pair then end up having sex, before Draper awakes again and tells her the romance is over.
But soon they are arguing and he hurls her off the bed before strangling her.

Caught in the moment: The dream sequence starts sensually with Don and Andrea's foreplay

He's then forced to hide her body under the bed, with one of her stilettos eerily peeping out.
Once again, Don collapses on the bed and when he wakes in the morning viewers see wife Megan bring him breakfast.
With Andrea's body gone, the audience are left wandering if the murder is fact or fiction.

      Mad Men Meets Walking Dead

It's 1963, and zombies have taken over Madison Avenue. At Mad Men's ad agency Stirling Cooper Draper Pryce, Don Draper lunches on the severed head of his secretary, while Pete Campbell snacks on a grisly mess of intestines in a breakfast meeting.
It's Mad Men, but not as we know it. Satirists Barely Political have made their own version of the hit television show - fusing it with elements of American post-Apocalyptic TV show Walking Dead.
They describe it as 'your favorite zombie apocalypse survivors and the undead handsome ad execs of the 1960s who love to eat them.'

Another secretary dispatched... Joan admonishes Don for lunching on his latest assistant

... while Don berates Campbell for devouring a grisly snack of intestines during their morning meeting
... while Don berates Campbell for devouring a grisly snack of intestines during their morning meeting

The result is a hilarious mash-up spoof that sees Mad Men's favourite characters take on the role of the undead as they parody storylines from the series.
'The world is a different place now. People are changing into hordes of undead brain suckers,' Don says, by way of introduction, while smoking a severed finger. 'We need to change the way we do things'
Campbell, who is greedily devouring intestines, flinging blood and shreds of flesh asunder, agrees.
'Don's right. Eighty nine per cent of the people on earth are now zombies, and we should exploit that,' he says.
'Jesus Campbell, put those intestines down. It's 9.15 in the morning,' Don shouts over at Campbell.
But it is not long before Don is getting his own pound of flesh, after he devours his own secretary, a funny take on the fact that in genuine Mad Men plotlines, Don is frequently reprimanded by Joan for having affairs with or quickly dispatching secretaries.

Gory: Don sucks on a severed finger instead of a cigarette throughout the spoof

Roger Stirling: 'If you're going to eat someone, at least make it my wife!'

'Mr Draper, the Lucky Strike people have been trying to get hold of you all day,'  Joan admonishes Don as he sits at his desk.
'I was having lunch,' he replies.
'Why didn't your secretary answer the phone?' Joan asks.
'She was lunch,' Don retorts, holding up the bloody severed head of a blonde.
'Not another one,' she sighs. 'You don't know how many girls I've had to train this month already.'
Roger Stirling makes an appearance, shown in his familiar pose, reclining on the sofa in his office. 'Come on Don, eat your own secretaries!' Stirling yells, as Don is shown gorging on yet another female staff member.
'And if you're going to eat someone, at least make it my wife!'

Battle: The Walking Dead characters are deployed to clear the agency of zombies of zombies
The Walking Dead characters are deployed to clear the agency of zombies

The spoof Mad Men cast is joined by the main characters of Walking Dead, who have broken into the Stirling Cooper Draper Pryce with the purpose of overcoming the zombie invasion.
Deputy sheriff Andrew Lincoln says that 'walkers' (the name for zombies in the TV horror series) have overtaken the ad agency.
'The conference room just isn't safe any more!' he cries. 'It's the Fifties. no wait, now it's the Sixties... and there are walkers everywhere!'
And so the action continues. The actors play the parts with aplomb - especially the actor cast to play Pryce, who gets the plummy Brit's accent spot on.
The redhead cast as Joan Holloway is a less flattering likeness, with the spoof actress's bountiful curves poking fun at Red's pneumatic appearance in the show.
Even the graphic introductory sequence has been adapted to have a zombie theme. In the spoof, the man falling to the floor from the office window is quickly attacked by a zombie who drains the blood from his neck, turning him into the undead in the process.
