Mad Men Season 5 Episode 5 Joan & Lane Share a Kiss

On tonight’s episode of Mad Men the allure of Joan Harris becomes too much for Lane Pryce who tries his luck with his busty colleague. 

The English Finance Officer plants a kiss on an unsuspecting Joan after she comforts him following a fist fight with his colleague Pete Campbell. 

While Joan, who has enjoyed a long affair with Roger Sterling in the past, fails to push Lane away she does appear startled by the smooch and sits staring at her boss for a few moments before getting up and calmly opening the office door, to ensure he doesn’t repeat the gesture. 

Realising he has misjudged the situation Lane notes: ‘I just seem to know no end to my humiliation today.’

Joan, played by Christina Hendricks, might have kicked out her husband but she clearly is not attracted to her boss.

Just moments before Lane tries it on with Harris he is seen beating up colleague Pete Campbell after learning his colleague took a family friend, and potential client, to party with prostitutes. 

After taking a phone call from his distressed wife about the incident Pryce storms into the boardroom to confront Campbell about his activities. 

He chastises his colleague for taking a potential client out to a brothel and exaplains that his wife found out because he had 'chewing gum in his pubis'.

While the news leaves the rest of the board in fits of laughter Lane takes out his frustation on Campbell. 

He declares: 'I can't believe the hours I have put in to see you turn into a monster.'

While Pete makes a smart remark Lane decides the pair will settle the matter the old-fashioned way, with a fist fight. 

 The other board members don't try and break up the fight and instead they simply shut the curtains and let the drama play out

He tells his opponent: 'You are a grimey little pimp as soon as I raise my hands it will be too late to run'.

Campbell replies: 'You want to take you teeth out or do you want me to knock them out?'

Roger notes: 'Cooler heads should prevail but am I the only person who wants to see this?'

Don draws the curtain of the office as the men take off their jackets and unbutton their sleeves. 

While the first few punches appear to miss Lane manages to give Pete a bust nose before knocking him to the floor, taking only a few punches himself. 

As he storms out he shouts: 'Consider that my last piece of advice.'

While Lane celebrated his victory giving in to his desire for Joan, Campbell was seen telling Don not to judge him before tears came to his eyes. 

He told Draper: 'I’m not as virtuous as you,' before choking out: 'I have nothing'.

Not only is Campbell reeling from his defeat but he is also feeling sorry for himself after he enjoyed a romp with a young blonde at the brothel.

During the evening where Roger, Don and Pete were entertaining their client from Jaguar, Don showed he has changed.

The foursome head to a party where there are plenty of willing girls

 Their potential client has no qualms going off to have sex with a girl

Instead of cheating on Megan he remains faithful ignoring the advances of the prostitutes while the other head off to separate bedrooms. 

In fact Draper appears to be wanting to start a family with his young wife and is seen asking her 'let's make a baby' after enjoying a dinner in the country at Campbell's house. 

 Pete also enjoys the advances of a pretty female but Don doesn't get involved

 The blonde can't wait to get into bed with Pete, who doesn't appear to think twice about cheating on his wife
