Despite the horrible beating she received at his hands in 2009, Rihanna has revealed she decided to collaborate with ex-boyfriend Chris Brown to further her career.
In a move that's sure to infuriate many people who applauded the artist for her honesty regarding the issue of domestic abuse, the 24-year-old admitted her decision to work with him is pragmatic.
Rihanna called Ryan Seacrest this morning on KIIS FM and explained her choice to record two duets with the man who attacked her three years ago.

She said: 'I reached out to him about doing Birthday Cake because that’s the only person that really... it made sense to do the record.
'Just as a musician - despite everything else - that was going to be the person.'
She said: 'I thought about rappers, and I’ve done that so many times, and the hottest R&B artist out right now is Chris Brown.

'So I wanted him on the track.'
But speculation is also mounting that Rihanna may want Brown, 22, back in her personal, life too.
Over the weekend, it appeared as though she was dropping hints on Twitter that the pair may be reconciling.
Quoting the Beres Hammond song They Gonna Talk, Rihanna tweeted: 'When they see me with you, wonder what the crowd would say? When they find us together, what will all the people say?'
Brown was initially bound by a restraining order that required him to stay 50 yards away from his former girlfriend, 10 yards at events.

It was reduced to a level one status last year, meaning the pair could appear together at awards ceremonies.
Brown was charged with two felonies after the incident, which left Rihanna in need of hospitalisation.

Reports from the scene describe 'bite marks' on the Barbados-born singer's arms and recount that she looked like 'a WWE wrestler.'
The couple had got into a row at Clive Davis's pre-Grammy party it progressed until they pulled over in the L.A Hancock Park area.
During the argument that followed, Rihanna threw the keys to Brown's rented silver Lamborghini out of the window.
When he returned, the savage beating occurred and when Rihanna came round, Brown had fled the scene.
Initially, the singer spoke out about the spectre of hidden abuse and claimed she wanted to be held up as an example of recovery.
In 2009, she told Glamour magazine in US: 'Domestic violence is a big secret.
'No kid goes around and lets people know their parents fight. Teenage girls can’t tell their parents that their boyfriend beat them up.
'You don’t dare let your neighbor know that you fight. It’s one of the things we [women] will hide, because it’s embarrassing.
Before adding: 'My story was broadcast all over the world for people to see, and they have followed every step of my recovery.
'The positive thing that has come out of my situation is that people can learn from that.
'I want to give as much insight as I can to young women, because I feel like
'I represent a voice that really isn’t heard. Now I can help speak for those women.'
No RIhanna, you do not represent that voice, and no, you can't help speak for those women. Sad.
