Joined by her husband,  Olympic rider Alvaro de Miranda Neto, Athina was photographed walking the course before the premiere Global Champions Tour competition.

Most remembered as the child caught in a legal battle over the Onassis fortune, she joined a field of 44 international riders, and was every bit the standout.

Pairing her riding attire with a traditional navy coat and gloves, Athina jockeyed grey mare AD Uceline through the course. She placed 28th overall at the Grand Prix of Doha, which saw riders compete for a $600,000 prize at the Al Rayyan outdoor arena.

Athina, the daughter of Christina Onassis and Thierry Roussel, inherited a legacy as the granddaughter of Aristotle Onassis, the story of which lived on in America after Aristotle's marriage to Jackie Kennedy in 1968, five years following the assassination of her husband, John F Kennedy.

At 27, the young woman once dubbed 'the richest little girl in the world' has already been married for seven years to her Brazilian husband, known as 'Doda' by friends and family.

The renowned showjumper, who has been married before, was separated from his wife when Athina joined the Brazilian show-jumping school where he trained in 2003.
The couple now live in São Paulo in an $8.6million home overlooking Ibirapuera Park.

Athina's inheritance is the subject of much controversy as it remains unclear what is owned by her personally, and what is owned by the Onassis Foundation, thought to be worth $2.1b.

As a child, control of Athina's estate was handled by five trustees selected by her mother. This is thought to be because Christina, who died when her daughter was three, never completely trusted Roussel.
Athina fell out with her French father when she was young, however, and he failed to attend her wedding to de Miranda Neto in December, 2005.

Athina, who as a 10-year-old revealed in a handwritten will that she intended to give her fortune away, was due to take over control of the philanthropic Onassis Foundation founded by her grandfather Aristotle when she turned 21.

However she was blocked by the trustees, who said her connections with Greece were too tenuous.
Stelios Papadimitriou, president of the foundation, said at the time: 'We are not going to turn Onassis Foundation over to someone who has no connection with our culture, our religion, our language or our shared experiences, and who never went to college or worked a day in her life.
'She can do whatever she wants with what she inherited from her mother, but not with Onassis's legacy to the Greek people in memory of Alexander Onassis.'
Under the terms of her grandfather Aristotle Onassis's will, his fortune was divided in two, with half used to set up a charitable foundation in memory of Athina's uncle Alexander, who was killed in a plane crash.
